Will I Recover?
This is an indeterminate question, which poses difficulty answering in an accurate and definite manner, due to the uniqueness of our brain and the individual effects of brain injury. Thus, the recovery process will vary for each person depending upon such factors that may include but not be limited to severity of injury, age, cognitive abilities prior to injury, and individual potential to recover.

Brain Plasticity
It was previously thought that the adult brain is unchangeable; however, there is evidence that the brain can reorganize itself and that its nervous system may be dynamic. A term used to describe this reorganization is called brain plasticity. There are studies which detail the effects of cortical reorganization post injury or with increased use and experience. For example, after a cortical area is injured, the neighbouring or adjacent cortical area may take over the representation of that previous function. It has also been shown that with increased use of a function, its corresponding cortical representation may also increase.
